The last match of day five of the BDO Junior Women’s World Cup saw host USA face two-time defending Junior World Cup champions Korea. Seven minutes into the match, the United States got off to an early 1-0 lead on a field goal by #14 Katie Reinprecht. A penalty corner followed soon after to the sound of roaring U.S. fans, but the U.S. was unable to capitalize on this opportunity. Shortly thereafter, Korea was awarded a penalty corner of their own. The United States’ keeper, however, came through with big saves to maintain the United States’ 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, the United States and Korea continued to battle, with neither team having many scoring opportunities. Korea equalized the score in the 53rd minute on a penalty corner goal by #7 Sookyung Lee to make it 1-1. With Korea slightly dominating the second half of the match, #11 Sohyun Bae drew the U.S. keeper out to put Korea up 2-1 on a beautiful lifted field goal in the 67th minute. Unable to score in the final minutes, the United States would fall to Korea 2-1 on the first day of new pool matches.
